Unlock the 4 Types of Non-Profit Boards!

You’ve got new volunteers joining the board team and they are filled with questions. From meeting procedures to reimbursement for expenses, some of the questions can be straight forward and easy to answer. Things can get a little uncomfortable when a new board member wants to bring their experience from another board into the mix. That can lead to questions about who supervises the staff team, who does the work, who is allowed to make purchase for the organization, and wanting to change the governance role.

The executive director will need to step in.

When experienced board members are not doing the work to train new volunteers and answer questions, a non-profit executive directors will need to step in. That’s stressful.

While it isn’t the ED’s job to provide training we all know if new board members don’t get the information they need, the organization will suffer.

Provide some context.

It helps if an executive director has a tool that helps explain the natural evolution of a non-profit board. This will help new board members understand the path the non-profit has taken with its governance.

I have a guide that explains the four most common types of non-profit boards. A guide that executive directors and their boards can use as a reference when planning out their progression

The guide serves as a road map for the kind of board a non-profit might start out with, and the some of the logical next steps for non-profits that want to grow.

Don’t go backwards.

Don’t let new board members derail all the hard work previous board have done to develop the governance style they want to use.

Give them the tools to learn where the organization started and where the board is headed. Give them a road map.

Hi, I'm Christie. I help executive directors develop the systems and processes needed to run a non-profit.

I learned early in my career, there is no non-profit school. Browsing the internet for resources from big-city experts doesn’t provide practical solutions to balance the budget, write a work plan, or conduct an employee evaluation. Leadership development tips don’t really resonate when you are also taking out the recycling and cleaning the washroom.

I created ChristieSaas.com so non-profit leaders never need to wonder how to do the job – no matter how big or small that job is.

I have been the executive director of small-team, small-budget, non-profits for 20+ years. My experience isn’t theory. It is the real, operational, and practical solutions I use every day.

I love my work, and I want to help you love yours too.
